HCR STYLE
Hospital-style beds, used in healthcare facilities, create special requirements for bed coverings. The beds are adjustable, therefore the drops (sides) of the bedspread do not normally go to the floor. A 15” drop is most common. At the end of the bed, the drop is commonly 7” to 9” so that it does not interfere with the controls.
Because of the bed tray and various bed mechanisms, bedspreads are shorter at the end of the bed (normally 7" to 9") and tailored so as not to get in the way. We offer a choice of 3 drop lengths - 9", 15", and 21", all of which leave clearance between the spread and the floor. Along with the drop length do not forget mattress length and width. |

The illustration on the right shows how to measure for bedspreads, coverlets, and dust ruffles. The measurements needed are the mattress length and width, as well as the relevant "drop". The drop lengths are shown for the various items. For bedspreads measure from the top of the mattress to the floor. For coverlets, measure from the top of the mattress to the bottom of the mattress (not the box spring!) And for dust ruffles, measure from the top of the box spring to the floor. |

Bedspread Specifications
Filling
We offer 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10 ounce bonded polyester fiber commercially manufactured quilted bed coverings.
Lining
The content, quality, and construction of the backing are critical to the longevity of the bedspreads. Our standard backing is a preshrunk 70/30 poly/cotton blend (63x37 count) designed to be compatible with all face fabrics in use today. These backings do not have fill or sizing which can cause problems. FR backings and colored linings are available as optional upgrades upon request.
Pre-Seam
The pattern is matched as the paneled fabric is joined with a safety stitch It is then quilted on a modern lock stitch machine. Pre-seamed bed coverings are far superior to post-seamed bed coverings. Stitch popping and seam slippage are far more likely when using post-seamed bed coverings. Always insist on pre-seamed, computerized quilted bedspreads and coverlets.
Seamless
Wide-width fabrics (110” - 126”) are available in many options. These wide-width fabric patterns can be more limited and there are some size constraints. Please be advised that the pillow tuck will be reduced as the drop increases. The maximum finished length using a 126” good is approximately 119”. Fill weights over 8oz can also reduce the maximum finished length.
Single needle hem 1” lock stitched through quilting prevents the hem from unraveling.
BeddingStyles
Syle designates the look of the bedspread. After the fabric selection, this is the most important consideration in determining the “look” of the finished product.
Fitted, with Quilted or Unquilted Tongues
Fitted bedspreads with open corners require a gusset. This may be quilted or un-quilted. Contrasting fabrics may also be used. Properly made gussets should be no less than 18” wide. This is also called a “tongue”.
Kick Pleats
Corner similar to gusset style fitted but the sides are joined to the foot drops.
Waterfall Fitted
Side seam flows (or “falls”) over the foot of the bed into the drop instead of the corner traditionally used for a fitted spread.
Reversible
Fabric is shown on both sides and quilted on both sides.

Coverlets
Side and foot drops to cover a few inches below the mattress. (Typically a 15” drop for use with a dust skirt.)
Duvet Covers
Side and foot drops to cover a few inches below the mattress. (Typically a 15” drop for use with a dust skirt.)
Dust Ruffles or Dust Skirts
Cover the box spring and drop to the floor.
Throws
Made with bell, or rounded corners at foot.
